A man bought a ticket to the Big Game through his ticket guy, and got a really good deal on it. But the reason he got it so cheap was that it wasn’t real, it was fake.
His brother also had a Big Game ticket. He paid full price for his. But he did his research, though, too. He went to the official website of the big game. There, they had a full description of EXACTLY what a real ticket to the big game looks like and also many warnings about watching out for counterfeits. His brother studied all this and when it was time to purchase his ticket to the big game, he was ready. He knew what to look for – as well as what to watch out for.
One day, before the big game, the man’s brother said to him, “Hey, I have a ticket to the big game, and you can get one too, it’s not sold out yet, can you believe it!?!?! Come with me and I’ll show you where you can get one too.” But the man said, “That’s way too expensive, doesn’t look real, and besides – I already HAVE a ticket for the big game and it was much more affordable than what you’re trying to sell me.”
The man’s brother was crushed. You see, he knew there was no way the man's ticket could be real because he knew there was only one place you could purchase genuine tickets, and there was only one price you could pay. As much as he tried to convince him that his cheap ticket was a phony, the man wouldn’t hear of it. His brother said, “Listen, I know exactly what legitimate ticket to the big game looks like. Can I at least describe it to you and show it to you so you can study it and see if yours matches it?” So the brother showed the man his ticket, and the man only glanced at it for a very brief moment and refused to take it. It was obvious that they were vastly different and he didn’t want to look into the matter any further. After all, everybody knows the two things you should never discuss are politics and tickets to the big game.
The man said to his brother, “I’ve seen all I need to see of your ticket. And if that works for you, that's great, but I already HAVE a ticket and I like it.” His brother said, “Can you compare our tickets to one another? If they are different, then that means one of them may be fake. Wouldn’t it be wise for us to figure it out now, before it’s too late, and one of us can’t get in? Come, let us reason one with another.”
But the man said to his brother, “Can’t you see, I am finished with the 'checking of the ticket' conversation! You have yours and I have mine and you need to leave the matter be. Besides, who are you to say your ticket is better than mine? Who can know if one ticket is right and another is wrong? We will all find out when we get to the game and I find it HARD to believe that they’re going to turn anybody away who has travelled so far, and has a ticket, regardless of what it looks like. That wouldn’t be fair.”
His brother immediately replied, “Wait! They WILL turn away everyone who does not have a genuine ticket, and it doesn’t have to happen to anybody! We ALL can know. The information is public. Let me show you. We can go to the official website of the big game together and see. It’s not a secret.” The man replied, “My ticket guy knows that website like the back of his hand. I don’t have time to do all that anyway. That’s what my ticket guy is for. I even asked him. He has assured me that the official website of the game says the ticket he sold me is REAL. Going there would be a big waste of my time, anyway, since there are so many different ways to interpret it. That’s what ticket guys are for. Ticket guys exist so they can be experts on it for us. And even they can’t agree on what a ticket is supposed to look like. If they, the experts, can’t agree on what the ticket is supposed to look like, there is no way, brother, that you have it all figured out.”
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
